  Healthy Beginnings...

Healthy Beginnings is a non-profit organization that offers free Child Development and Child Wellness Screenings.  Healthy Beginnings tests children in the following areas:  vision, hearing, speech and language, motor skills, concepts, wellness and safety, dental, behavior and nutrition.  The screening is for children ages birth through four and their parents.  Children are welcome to attend whether or not they have health insurance.  For more information call (541) 383-6357.  

Volunteer Opportunities...

-Pregnancy Resource Centers. Use your God-given gifts to bless others!  Pregnancy Resource Centers of
Central Oregon is seeking volunteers to help in various areas: receptionist, peer counselor, sorting or washing maternity/baby clothes, prayer partners, public relations, handyman tasks, quilting/sewing baby blankets, etc.  Youth groups can host car washes to raise funds!  Please call your local center for details.

-Literacy INC is looking for volunteer tutors in Bend and Redmond. Tutors spend just a few hours a week with adult students, teaching them to read.  For more information call 1-800-322-8715.

-SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) provides trained volunteers and new books to children in kindergarten, first, second and third graders.  SMART needs volunteers who can give an hour a week to make a difference in the life of a child.  Call the Central Oregon SMART office at 541-383-6466.

-Host Families Needed... Learn firsthand about another culture without leaving the United States.  Pacific Intercultural Exchange Program is looking for host families for exchange students from over 40 countries.  If you are interested in hosting a foreign teen, please call 1-800-828-9001.

-COBRA (Central Oregon Battering and Rape Alliance) needs volunteers  to work with child support groups,  work as teen advocates and participate in children's activities.  This can be a great opportunity for students looking to earn experience for childhood development degrees.  For more information call (541) 382-4420.
